Mortuma Murry is originally from Liberia, West Africa. Growing up, he experienced many things most kids never experienced, including living with multiple family members who had sickle cell disease. He has been able to learn from his sister and her life with sickle cell. Through these experiences, he has dreamt of helping children and others struggling with complex and less common medical conditions. This led him to pursue a career in medicine.
Sickle cell has been a central theme of life for Mortuma, and it has been an honor for him to be a part of making OSWATS a reality. It’s particularly exciting for him to bring representation not only to sickle cell but to the thalassemia population of patients and their families. He’s had great excitement for more resources, educational materials, and outreach, and looks forward to working with similar organizations in this region.
